Yousef keeps good company as he joins forces with some rather talented friends for his latest release.
Tell us about your new album, Yousef & Friends. How did it come about and how did you decide who to collaborate with?
It developed naturally. It was never meant to be a album/EP project but more just a bit of fun experimenting with some good friends. When I realised I had enough tracks to put them all out together and I took a look at how music was selling, I thought it would be a good idea to put it all out together, as a team effort with myself in charge.
It must have been great fun making it?
I got bit on the arse by Gene Farris' rottweiler "Bear" during one cut, so if you think that's fun then yeah, loads of it! It was great to hang out with my friends all over the world which if you bear in mind that before I ventured into dance music, out of the 8, I only knew Alex so it is great to have become so close with them all.
How does your understanding of the dance floor shape the tunes you produce?
Fortunatley on this project I could aim anywhere I wanted too, not always the dance floor. However normally I want to make the track work for me in the clubs, so I have one eye on the art and one on the floor. It's a balance, as with all things in life.
You’ve played in Mexico City at the beginning of September. Where did you play and what was the vibe like there?
I didn't make it for one reason or another. Not my fault at all I might add. a shame but that's the job sometimes.
You’ve also been touring across the States. Have you had any funny incidences or met any crazy people?
I go to get away from crazy people!! The States was pretty calm other than a few hectic studio days working on a Jamiroquai remix in LA. When I'm on the road I'm very reserved. All I want to do is work, sleep and get stuff done.
Where’s the best place you DJ’d over the last 6 months?
Serbia for the Exit Festival, Ibiza for Carl Cox at Space, and Circus every month in Liverpool.
What can we expect from Club Circus over Xmas and New Year?
We have a very special party on December 26th. It's so amazing that time of year in Liverpool. I don't do New Years Eve Circus because I am usually on the road. This year I'm in the UK for the first time in a few years, in Bournemouth and London.
