While most of us tend to think of annoying tracks by Aqua or the Cheeky Girls as the rulers of one hit wonders, there are loads of great tracks from artists who have just disappeared.
Read on as we crown the top ten plus some runners up.
Top Ten One Hit Wonders: Got To Be Real by Cheryl Lynn
What’s not to love about this single- upbeat, positive, great lyrics, soulful voice and an old school track you can shake your ass to. So why did Cheryl Lynn, 1970’s disco soul star, fade from the limelight after the release of this track? If you find out let us know please.
Top Ten One Hit Wonders: Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot

“Baby Got Back” the track about women with big bums and small waists is one of the funniest songs to come out of the 90’s. It was created by Sir Mix-A-Lot aka Anthony Ray and released in 1992. It should definitely win an award for its lyric and if you haven’t sent this video or heard the full intro to the song, you need to Click here.
Top Ten One Hit Wonders: Come on Eileen by Dexy’s Midnight Runners
Soft pop rockers the Dexy’s Midnight Runners released a diamond of a track in the form of “Come on Eileen”. It’s one of those tracks you seem to know the words to without releasing it. The tune is another 80’s baby and spent several weeks at the top in the UK, America and Australia.
Top Ten One Hit Wonders: Gipsy Woman (La La Dee La La Da) by Crystal Waters
This has to be one of the biggest dance singles ever and like a real one hit wonder, I think it’s fair to say most would not recognise this song by the title or artists. Instead the wonderful line of “La la dee la la da” helped to parachute this 90s single to the top and is played regularly on stations such as Kiss FM.
Top Ten One Hit Wonders: Nothing Compares to You by Sinead O'Connor
After Whitney Houston, who obviously couldn’t be included in our list, Sinead O’Connor has produced the best ballad known to man. The single was crowned number 1 in the UK, Australia and many stops in between. Despite her huge success with the single, her other releases just didn’t match up to the power of “Nothing Compares to You”. The video of her crying on screen is equally memorable.
Top Ten One Hit Wonders: Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas
Carl Douglas wowed music lovers across the globe with his track Kung Fu Fighting during the disco era of the 70s. It remained top of the charts for around 10 weeks and has been remixed time and time again ever since. A popular choice for everything from kid’s parties to weddings this one hit wonder will live on forever.
Top Ten One Hit Wonders: Jump Around by House of Pain
Admittedly this track can verge on the annoying, but the line “Jump, Jump, Jump, Jump Around” is infectious once you start singing it. The only downside is the spontaneous jumping that follows.
Top Ten One Hit Wonders: Fame by Irene Cara
This song was the soundtrack to the 80’s film “Fame” which followed the lives of American dance and drama students. However it wasn’t so much the lyrics of this song that made “Fame” a winner but the magical split jump featured in the music video and film. If you really don’t know this song the instructions are as follows: sing or shout the words “Fame” while jumping high into the air, opening your legs wide or doing the splits optional.
Top Ten One Hit Wonders: U Can't Touch This by M.C. Hammer
For some, M.C Hammer was more than a one hit wonder and yes “Have you seen her” was a catchy track, but let’s be honest “U Can’t Touch This” was his only real hit. Not only was the single a hit, but so were his baggy purple pants and knee banging dance.
