This C.D is a selection of calming songs for the insomniac- stick this on and quicker than you can say ‘horlicks’ you will be nodding off in a lovely sleepy trance, says our reviewer Davina Richards.
The first few songs on this album are relaxing and pleasant but with a rather bland quality. Somewhat hard to categorise, NME summed up their style well describing them as ‘art-pop espresso laced with gentle Surrealism.’
This four piece band who have combined elements of 60’s pop-psych heroes such as the Monkees, Love and The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band now has earned itself a cult following and rave reviews.
There are indeed some superb tracks, in particular ‘Isn’t Life Strange’ and ‘From Brighton Beach,’ both interesting songs that have an emotional authenticity; although the band has a slight tendency to over sentimentalise at times. The last song ‘Dream of Leaving’ is another good track that pocesses a certain poetic and romantic vulnerability.
This then is a quiet and reflective album made for late night moments.
