The Cardigans Best of - Album Reviewed

The Cardigans album is an impressive collection of their best ever hits, comments Chloe Addo.

Listening to this album makes you realise why these guys (and gal!) have been in the business for over 10 years and sold a staggering six million albums worldwide.

Most known for the singles “Love Fool”, “Carnival”, “Erase/Rewind” and “My favourite Game” The Cardigans have built up quite a fan base in the UK and abroad.

The collection includes 22 tracks in total taken from the albums “Super Extra Gravity”,

“Long Gone Before Daylight”, “Gran Turismo”, “First Band On The Moon”, “Life,” and debut album “Emmerdale” released in 1994.

While their most famous tracks are definite highlights on the album, there are a load of other great tunes embedded within the track listings that make this collection pretty nice to listen to- including “War”, “Been It” and “Daddy’s Car”.

As a whole the collection is enjoyable to listen to- combining chilled guitar driven tracks alongside some upbeat numbers such as “Burning down the House”- collaboration with the one and only Tom Jones.

Admittedly, in the arena of Best of compilations that do the rounds all year, this album does not rank too highly (compared with the Beach Boys, Beatles and, er, Blur), but for fans of this Swedish band, and anyone who only knows The Cardigans for “My Favourite Game” or “Carnival” and are considering buying this album – then there is plenty to bring a smile to your face: there’s a lot more to this band than just “Love Fool”.
