They’ve remixed some of the industry’s most celebrated acts including Peter, Bjorn & John, Bloc Party, and The Dub Pistols. Chloe Addo had a chat with the duo to find out what was going down.

How did you get started?

We’ve been buddies since film school and the first musical nod was a very basic sampler and MIDI set up to write tracks for the documentaries and short films we worked on. We realised we enjoyed making beats and then we started buying records and playing music we were into at student parties, Hackney Warehouses and smaller venues around London.

We both realised very early on that within the creative process it was the musical side that inspired us most and so we kept the focus on that, mainly the writing and production side, which progressed to remixing other artists, writing our debut album (completion in 2008) and developing it all at Live shows, coming soon to a venue near you!

How would you describe your style?

We listen to all kinds of music and we hate pigeonholes (they are small, cramped places)!

We think this diversity is reflected in our music and that can happen using live and electronic instruments, a variety of tempos and influences that can range from sounds to situations to literature and even to other art forms and politics.

What was the best ever gig you have played to date?

Every gig we play is unique so it would be difficult to pick just one, even in terms of playing a DJ set or performing Live, both can be quite special experiences so we can’t narrow it down.

What was your best gig or band that you have seen as a gig-goer?

2 gigs really moved us this year. The first was Daft Punk at the 02 festival, because it was outdoors, a warm summer evening and they absolutely rocked it with an amazing lightshow and some serious electronic Wizardry.

Completely different, but equally brilliant, but for different reasons The Editors at Brixton Academy, drums, bass, guitars, vocals – sounds pretty traditional but what an amazing gig!, Those guys are gonna be huge stars!

What are currently your favourite band(s)/artists?

So many to choose from, probably because it has been such a great year for music in many areas and genres. We love Fear of Theydon on Rob Da Bank’s Sunday Best Imprint. Does anyone not rate Justice/Busy P/Ed Bangers, we certainly do. Also in constant rotation in the studio and in cars: we’re playing Bloc Party, Editors, LCD’s Fabric Mix, Spank Rock, Agoria and Midnight Juggernauts.

Who is your all time favourite act?

Impossible to narrow it down to one, we’ve got the same love for The Doors, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and Nirvana and many others, in fact!

Are there any acts you love to hate?

Booka Shade, but only because they’re productions are just so damn simple and brilliant!

What was your first job?

We’ve both had our fair share of bad jobs, mainly in the creative industries, which just means the pay was really bad but you got free tickets to stuff and the occasional promo CD!

When was the last time you threw up? And why?

We’re not prepared to disclose that information, we’ve only just met…

What's your pre-gig drink of choice?

Red Bull, sometimes with a little vodka to calm the nerves, but we usually save the serious drinking for the after party!

Do you do the whole groupie love thing?

That’s why we put up with the crap pay, unsociable hours, unsavoury characters and economy travel.

Which other celebrity would you like to be trapped in a lift with and why?

Well as we’re a duo, we’d need another duo to keep things interesting, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, because the conversation would soon run out and we’d have to find other ways to amuse ourselves. Either that or Booka Shade to pick their brains…

Who did you last share your bed with?

A Moog Voyager, which is a big old style synthesizer with wood side panels…we’re running low on space in the studio and had to improvise!
