Rising DJ Marc Vedo has an impressive C.V. He’s played all over the world as one of the UK’s hottest dance music exports, bringing the party to big club names like Godskitchen, Cream, Gatecrasher, Avalon, Spundae, The Guverment and Ministry of Sound.

He’s also a festival favourite right here in the UK, playing at Glastonbury, Global Gathering, Homeland’s, Virgins V festival and Escape in the park.

He spoke to Urban Planet about music, clubbing and what it takes to wow a crowd.

What are your favourite tracks of the moment?

Anything produced by Trentemoller, Richard Durant, Mac & Mac, John o Callangham.

Any big tips for the summer?

Nothing at the moment, I am sure something will turn up in the next couple of weeks with Miami upon us.

What’s been your favourite collaboration so far?

With Mike Koglin and Gareth Emery. I have really enjoyed working with both of them and had lots of fun in the studio, which is always good.

Do super-star DJs like you still go out clubbing with their mates?

I can only talk about me personally. Hmmm, sometimes but it’s a hard one, when you spend your entire life in clubs. I play over 100 clubs a year, every Friday and Saturday, so when you get a night off, it’s a tough call to go to a club with your mates. I usually tend to go to bars, restaurants, lounge clubs. I think I do enough clubbing during the year to last most people a life time!

You’ve been in the game for a while now. What does a DJ have to do differently these days to wow a crowd?

The same as before, entertain them musically. If the music was crap, 15 years ago, people wouldn’t dance and the atmosphere would be poor. Nothing has changed. Even if the club is half full, as long as the music is good, people will generally stay and make the most of it.

You’ve played all over the world, where is your favourite club?

I really couldn’t answer that question, there are so many amazing events going on. Some of the best events have been in places like Turkey, S. Korea, Colombia, Canada, the US…

Where is the best place to go for a party?

Canada!

What’s the best club to play at in the UK?

For me personally…humm Turnmills, though I do really like the Carling Academy in Bristol. The set up is perfect, great crowds and really good sound systems.

In a previous interview with Urban Planet you chose world history as one of your biggest influences. If you were to go back in time, what period would you go back to?

Back to Roman times. I went to Rome recently and was shocked how advanced they really were over 2000 years ago. It only hits home when you see the structures they were building. To think that the Coliseum was built in 100BC and could hold up to 40 000 people, all sitting on marble, that’s impressive!

Where is your favourite spot on earth?

Portugal
