M.Y.N.C. Project are legendary for their four-decks/ two-mixer shows and effects units, fusing together their very different styles, tastes and technical ability to produce a truly unique. But for their new Sessions album Mark Brown and Nick Corelli have decided to go against the grain and deliver 2 individual mixes. We caught up with them to find out why.
It has been a crazy year for you both so far, individually and together, have any particular moments stood out?
Mark - DJing in Russia for the first time. What an amazing cultural experience and flying to Ufa on a 35 year old plane.
Nick - Touring Australia was brilliant as always and playing the terrace at Space for ‘We love’ was an amazing experience.
What are your biggest achievement so far?
Mark - Growing my hair into an afro!
Nick - Not laughing at Mark’s Afro!
Tell us about your new album
Mark - It’s a mix album for the legendary Ministry of Sounds Sessions – it was great fun to record.
Nick - This 2 disc album gives us the unique opportunity to present what we each feel is essential listening. We featured tracks from the likes of Kurd Maverick, Pryda, Magik Johnson and Dirty South who feature heavily in our record boxes.
How come you both did an individual mix?
Mark - We did it this way because we wanted to showcase our favourite music as individuals. We actually have very different tastes and it’s a fresh approach as people are used to us always doing the 4 deck 2 mixer thing.
Nick - People won’t expect individual mixes but it’s great to throw in surprises from time to time.
How did you come about the tracklisting?
Mark - I wanted to have a selection of great records, not just upfront ones.
Nick - It was selecting tracks that had been big for me over the last few months and a chance to show what I’m about as a DJ.
Any stand out tracks?
Mark- Beanfield feat Bajka – Tides – Compost’s in Germany finest moment for me a modern day classic this track has so much emotion in it.
Nick - Faze Action – In the Trees – Carl Craig’s Remix of this classic is stunning. It’s an incessant groove that really gets stuck in your head.
You have one of your own on there – with Dirty South – any plans for a release?
Nick - The record is released on October 8th on Cr2 along with a Piemont mix. It’s called ‘Everybody’s Freakin.’
Mark – tell us about whats going on with CR2?
Mark - Cr2 is as busy as ever - a packed release schedule with our new Live & Direct compilation brand seeing Oscar G live from Space in Miami plus we have Ito & Star and Fedde Le Grand new singles coming out soon.
Nick – You run Rapture in Loughborough, how is that coming along? What calibre of djs are you booking there?
Nick - Very well, we are about to go 4 nights a week. Djs coming up include Paul Woolford, Tim Deluxe, Smokin Jo, Sandy Rivera on Saturdays plus we’ve booked diverse djs such as The Mystery Jets, Shitdisco and the Infadels on Fridays, we’ve also got our 1st Birthday at the end of October with a huge line-up. It’s really exciting.
What have you got coming up in the next few months?
Mark - Lots of touring at the moment - a huge CR2 party at this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event and I’m remixing the new Kylie single.
Nick - More gigs, including a residency at Shivoo in Leicester, Rapture’s 1st Birthday, plus a return to Poland.
What does the future hold for M.Y.N.C Project?
Nick - Who knows?
