Jack Savoretti: Between The Minds

A delicately poignant selection of songs with a somewhat sombre undertone makes for an interesting debut album by Jack Savoretti, says Davina Richards.

The first song and new release “One Man Band” is probably the best on the album. Here the country and western element is evident with bursts of harmonica amidst the strumming of an acoustic guitar. It is a soulful and eloquently tuneful ballad.

From here the songs adopt a more serious tone, spine tingling in their fragility and raw emotion- Jack’s husky yet sinuous tones are reminiscent of artists such as Jeff Buckley and Richard Ashcroft.

The lyrics are equally beautiful- indeed he tells how his passion for words preceded his love for music. As a teenager the only thing that interested him was poetry… “I was writing all the time, it was the thing to do, sit under a tree with a notebook, go somewhere else in your head. I was in the clouds”.

This album provides a perfect range of songs in which to indulge those sentimental melancholic feelings that creep up on all of us from time to time.
