Who would have thought the singer from that slightly irritating track “1980” could produce such a mind-blowing single in the form of “American Boy”, writes Chloe Addo.

Having teamed up with US mega star Kanye West, the newest single unleashed from Estelle is more than pleasing to the ear.

“American boy” definitely showcases Estelle at her finest. Her vocals sound smooth and her lyrics well polished-it’s probably the first time you can really tell what a beautiful and husky voice this London lady has.

The R&B infused single is a mid- tempo track which follows Estelle’s love for, as the single says, an American boy. The track is split between slices of rap and a lengthy chorus from Kanye West.

The single is a good sign that the album titled “Shine”, released 31st March is going to be gem of a CD.

However those who enjoyed Estelle’s earlier work may be unimpressed with the new material which seems to have been heavily influenced by her extended stay in the US. Having already paired up with American artists, such as Kanye West and Black Eyed Peas man, Will.i.am, the rest of the album will no doubt feature many more Americans; could this Londoner be ignoring her British roots in a quest for US stardom?
