With so many artists coming and going, it’s easy to become apathetic to emerging talent. But occasionally someone comes along who really is worth getting excited about; you can tell that a major talent has arrived on the scene and is absolutely here to stay: DJ Gregory is just such a man.
The latest addition to the exclusive group of French house-icians populated by the likes of Dimitri From Paris, Bob Sinclar and Martin Solveig. He emerged onto the scene with the underground smash ‘Tropical Soundclash’ (which coincidentally kicks off the proceedings on CD1), followed up with percussive club anthem ‘Elle’ and had further successes collaborating with Julian Jabre on ‘Tourment D’Armour’ and ‘Block Party’ (featured unmixed on the bonus cd,CD3). Gregory is also well know as one of the original members of Bob Sinclar’s highly regarded ‘Africanism’ project. As well as being a producer and DJ he also takes to running his own highly successful label, Faya Combo. Gregory is currently resident at the trend-setting Paris club TGV and continues to make his presence felt with a densely packed international itinerary.
DJ Gregory will be showcasing his record collection and mixing up some personal favourites with cutting edge future classics and some exclusive re-edits on this compilation.
This is what you will find on CD1 :Nothing like a memory provoking classic to set the focus for your compilation, Quality ‘class of 94’ Morales treatment on the gospel great Donna Allen’s “Real”, the blend sweeps nicely, 4 tracks in and we’ve built up to a Monumental moment in Gregory’s production career, as the triumph that is “Elle” grips with it’s sultry emotive groove. The premiere league audio drives on with Kenny and Louie’s sunrise rousing remix of SIIS’s “Back To Life”. Greg and long time studio cohort Julian Jabre, kick back and let off the midnight groover that is “Foulchette”. ‘Masters’ once again rears as he unfurls the inspired broken beats of Incognito’s “Jacobs Ladder”. Epic is one word, add proportions and your half way to Next Evedence “L’Adventure”. What fitting way to draw that first adventure to a close than with the timely classic “Déjà vu”, you’ve never been here before, but you’ll be back…
On CD 2 : Like the theme from a cult TV series, Gregory’s Anthem ‘Tropical Soundclash’ opens up disc 2’s ceremony. ‘Sookoos’ is yet another exclusive cut that graces this selection as we hear Gregory in fine Afrique mode. As if he was reading the dance floor, Gregory’s trademark programming genius is again apparent with the self penned ‘Afromobile’ and in the space of 2 minute you lose yourself again. The runway is layed for one of his most inspired productions to date, the disco dominating ‘Joburg Theme’, distinctive beats ensue with MAW’s The Ha Dance’, Dennis ferrer’s “Hit it Off” hits the stereo and the magic begins true satin sheets Disco style. Closing the show with Greg’s exclusive ‘Tribylendro’ edit, fusing his DJ essential “Triby” beats with the porntastic “Don’t Know Malendro”.
This is a fantastic eclectic album by Gregory which we are sure you will love. This is the Parisian beatmaster ast his best. Watch out for forthcoming single releases on the new ITH label.
