A pioneer of the Berlin techno scene since way back in the day, Urban Planet salutes Ellen Allien, a globe trotting DJ and producer.

Ellen Allien first came to our attention whilst scanning the cacophony of musical acts on MySpace. While we ignored the majority of bad bedroom beat makers that live on there, we were drawn in by Allien's selection of introductory tracks. We also liked the fact that on her long (too long??) introduction to herself, she ends it with the enticing phrase ‘The mix is everything. I push myself to the absolute limit, sweating, and the thrill is that the room will become our room!’ Great!

If you like your techno on the right side of trance then Allien is for you, with slow building tunes that keep their momentum right up to the end. Of the four tunes listed on her page Your Body is My Body stands out as the best – if you don’t like this track then Allien probably isn’t really for you, but as Berlin beat makers go, Urban Planet think she’s got it – and she don’t look too bad either!
