Creamfields veteran Anne Savage on tour buses, Ibiza and her forthcoming Extreme album.

When did you first go to Creamfields?

"I'm a Creamfields veteran and have been going since the beginning.”

You've played all over the world - what is it you like about Creamfields?

“Being a northerner, it's great to play a festival on my own stomping ground. I love seeing friends who are DJs that I don't get to spend time with very often - everyone hangs round and gets sloshed. The atmosphere in all the arenas is always amazing and it's great to see other DJs’ style.”

What would be your perfect festival experience?

“Arriving in a 'Meet The Fockers' style tour bus - utterly pimping! Spending the day hanging out with pals in glorious sunshine and playing to a totally up for it crowd. Watch out for the Savagemobile this summer!”

Do the girls get treated differently when playing festivals - like cleaner toilets and make up mirrors?

“I haven't been in the men's toilets, but I'm guessing we have to rough it like them. Rarely do I get my own Portacabin in the UK but in Europe and abroad they make a bit more effort for the international DJs.”

Summer festivals in the UK are still prone to a little rain - What do you play in bad weather? And sunny weather?

“I suppose the weather does affect my mood which in turn could affect what I play, but it's nearly always night by the time I'm on so it probably doesn't make much difference.”

With all the best DJs playing festivals like Creamfields this year, do you really believe that dance music is in decline?

“Well, I think festivals tend to bring people out that wouldn't necessarily go to clubs every weekend so it isn't a true reflection of the dance scene. There aren't as many clubs doing dance as we know it, but there's still enough people into it to keep me in full time DJing work!”

Are you ever envious of Rock stars or do DJs have it better?

“DJs have had a great time the past ten years or so, so I can't whinge about Rock stars being better off. After all, we don't all make our own music so why should we be treated better?”

What is the main difference between playing at home and playing abroad?

“'Abroad' is a very loose term. It depends which country I'm in to make the comparison. It's great if you go to far away shores and get to see a bit of the country you are in, and when abroad I'm able to experiment a bit more because everyone hasn't seen me play a hundred times before like at home and have certain expectations. It's always great to come home and play in the UK after a long tour though.”

What are you working on at the moment?

“I've just finished two new tracks - the next 'Dumb Blonde' V Coburn track is due out on Tomcraft's label Great Stuff Records. It's called 'We Have The Technology’ featuring live bass on the breaks tip - and I've just finished a harder track with Vinylgroover and the Redhed called 'Pay Attention' with live guitar in that as well. Live guitar is definitely the way forward for me at the moment, but I'm not ready to swap my decks for a Gibson just yet.”

What have you got coming up for the near future?

“Another Extreme album, some more Dumb Blonde material and my residency at Extreme v Tidy @ Es Paradis in Ibiza all summer plus my regular trips to the US, UK and of course, Creamfields!
