Adam Sheridan, Mixmags 2004 Future Hero, shares his essential summer tracks and tells us about his latest release, Another Tomorrow.

You were the youngest person to record a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in January 2004 at the age of 21. You've been listening to the show since you were 11, so was it a dream come true?

It was a dream come true. I've been a big fan of the Essential Mix show for so long and it was fantastic to be asked to record one myself. I've learnt a lot about dance music through listening to them over the years and I wanted to do a mix which showed that I have an eclectic taste in dance music.  The mix I did was well received and I think some people were surprised that it was quite diverse. It's such a great show because it's listened to by people all over the world.

You’ve got a cover CD on the July issue of M8 magazine which includes your new single, Another Tomorrow. Which tunes are set to be summer anthems this year?

I think a big track this summer is definitely going to be the Perasma - Swing to Harmony record. Also The new Paul Van Dyk single The Other Side is wicked, and of course my new single Another Tomorrow which comes out this August!

You’ve had a lot of praise and support from well-known DJs and were crowned Mixmag Future Hero at the 2004 Trance Awards.  Has it been hard for you to break into the dance industry?

I wouldn't say it's been hard for me to break into the dance industry because I've had a lot of support from people around me. Even going back to Sundissential who supported me when I could barely see over the decks! I'm only 22 but feel like I've been around the dance scene for a long time.  I was really surprised and pleased to have won the award and thanks to everyone who voted for me!

What advice do you have for aspiring DJs?

The best thing to advise is to always play the music you love, and don't fall into the trap of just playing what's popular at the time.  Also try and offer something different to what everyone else is doing. And most of all don't get nervous, just enjoy it because the crowd will respond to that.

Tell us where you will be playing this summer.

I've got a very busy summer which I'm excited about.  I've already played some of the big festivals in the UK such as Coloursfest and Escape into the Park. I'll also be performing at Creamfields which I really enjoyed last year and is my favorite British festival. I'm doing both Impulz and Dance Valley festivals in Holland for the first time which has always been an ambition of mine, and I'll be performing at Cream Amnesia in Ibiza over the summer.

What was the first record you ever bought?

The first record I ever bought was Gat Decor - Passion which is still a great record to this day.  I've got a room full of records because I love playing off vinyl.  A lot of DJs only use CDs now and while I also use CDs, I still love the feel and versatility of vinyl.

Which DJs first inspired you and why?  Have you met them since?

I grew up watching a lot of DJs at Gatecrasher and The Orbit in Leeds but the ones who really inspired me were Paul van Dyk, Sasha and Westbam.  I always really enjoyed watching PVD in particular because his sets are always so original and he has a unique sound which just grips any audience instantly. I've not met Sasha but I have met Westbam and these days I regularly do gigs with PVD which is great.  Three of my four Cream Amnesia dates this summer are alongside Paul which I'm looking forward to.

What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

The advice came from Mr Halliwell funny enough and it was to sack my old job off and take up my Djing and music production full time! :-)
